In the spirit of Earth Day and all the qualities it brings, I’d like to share my newest song with you all: "I See My Love."
One morning, I sat myself down in my practice chair to begin my session for the day. I had planned to focus on right-hand arpeggios, followed by slurs with my left hand. Once I was settled and began sipping my favorite Oolong tea, I noticed something in the piano room that I hadn’t seen before.
There are lots of plants in the room where I like to practice. One of them, pictured above, had completely grown out of its pot and pressed itself against the window—like a grounded child staring longingly at an ice cream truck as it passed by.
I realized the plant was trying to truly feel the sunlight, positioning itself in that way. It made me wonder what it would be like to live a life where your very essence is filtered through a sheet of glass.
It hit me hard. Can you imagine what it would be like to live like that? To see your love—but not be able to touch it?
Putting myself in the “pot” (if you will) created an emotion in me that gave birth to this song. The whole thing came through in a matter of minutes—as if the plant itself spoke to me, telling me exactly what to write.
In a way, I think it did. The emotion I felt was one of longing, wonder, and hope.
As you listen, I encourage you to put yourself in a similar position to the plant and ask yourself: Am I in a place where I can truly feel the sun—my source of life force, identity, and love?
I hope your reflections—and your listening—help you bloom into the beautiful flower that you truly are.
